News that local pub jobs are getting an avalanche of CVS from over-qualified applicants means now might be a good time, as David

Brent would say, to “get all your ducks in a row”.

Whether you’re on furlough or already unemployed, a not-for-profit initiative called Furlearn (www.furlearn.com) is providing free wellbeing and motivational support for fellow furloughees and job-hunters.

Set up by furloughed recruiter Garry Wills and his co-founder Jade Johannsen, their team of 14 Furlearn experts are on a mission to motivate job seekers with free, thought-provoking live events with industry gurus.

Gary says, “We want to remind everybody out there that they are not alone. We aim to give our community real-life tangible tips and prepare them for their return to work.”

Here’s 10 Furlearn tips you might want to “run up the flagpole”.

Your 9-5 may be on pause but keeping to a routine is great for your health and wellness. Start the day by getting those 10,000 steps in.

Especially to yourself. If you are having a Furlow, make self-care a priority. Try using www. headspace.com or at least tell someone how you’re feeling.

Virtually hug it out. It’s the only place where social distancing doesn’t apply! Check out www.furlearn.com

Show potential employers what you have been up to by updating your profile.

Relax, smile, and be yourself. Don’t forget to look directly into the camera lens when you speak (not at yourself).

Stand out from other candidates by thanking your interviewer by email on the same day.

Remind yourself of all the amazing things that have served you so well throughout your career.

Stick notes around your screen to act as prompts and reminders.

“After being told I no longer had a job after furlough,

Furlearn’s posts and feedback kept me from feeling alone in my job search.

“It’s hard to keep focused during times like these and Furlearn offers invaluable help and advice.

“The great news is I was offered a fantastic new role – and even got an interview with a different company on the same day!”

“I was lucky enough to connect with Gary Willis and the fledgling group when I was job hunting, and since then they have gone from strength to strength.

“If you are furloughed or out of work, then join Furlearn. They’re an amazing bunch of people, genuinely looking to empower and upskill people to optimise their careers.
