Caring, crying, green-living modern man is unmasked

MODERN man does the cleaning, shows his feelings and frets about the environmen­t, a poll found.

The bad news is only 35% of blokes think they actually count as a “modern man”.

More than 50% of 2,000 people quizzed in the poll said men should not have to conform to stereotype­s.

And while just 11% of men wanted to be seen as a tough guy, 52% wanted to be viewed as caring, 25% as ethical and 36% as unafraid to show their feelings.

The poll by Wilkinson Sword found 40% of men felt they were more aware of green issues than their dads.

MODERN man was around long before fashionabl­e modernity was invented.

Only he was called a gentleman, of the lowest rank of nobility but of good and courteous conduct.

And there are still plenty of us about. We open doors for ladies and give up our seats on public transport.

We treat women as our mothers would passionate about recycling, 37% worried about climate change and 47% tried to reduce food waste.

The green issues modern man should be passionate about also included expect to be treated. We do not have to drink cocktails, or wear pink, go vegan, meditate, do skin care regime, indulge in “self-pamper” nights or take up yoga.

Upper-lip be damned, we must have the courage to stand up to the boss.

That’s why we created trade unions, in saving energy (47%), using products made from recycled plastic (23%) and ecofriendl­y technology (25%). Other traits included having the confidence to go Dutch on a dinner date, and being as willing to bake and meditate as to do DIY.
