KING’S CROWN Glorious Summer awaits for Johnston star
KING’S ADVICE is the counsel for a repeat victory in the Unibet Summer Handicap (2.25) at Glorious Goodwood this afternoon.
This time last year, Mark Johnston’s six-year-old was in the form of his life as his success in this race was his eighth victory of
2019. Since then, the son of Frankel has drawn a blank from his last nine outings.
But there has been the odd bright spot – a second to Red Verdon in a Listed contest at Doncaster at the start of June being one – and the drought has seen King’s Advice sink down the weights to a British Horseracing Authority mark of 104.
That’s 4lb beneath the mark from which he won 12 months ago, and the record of Johnston (below) at this meeting makes it worth chancing he has brought Joe Fanning’s mount back to form. Rewaayat will go off a clear favourite for the Unibet Stewards’ Sprint (1.50), but represents a valuefor-money alternative. It was only in the last strides that Paul Midgley’s son of Acclamation managed a return to winning form at Pontefract last time. But that was over five furlongs, and going back up to six will help. disappointed when favourite for the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket on her most recent start but is given a chance to atone in the Group 2 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (3.00). Richard Hughes, four times the top jockey at Glorious Goodwood, is the man to follow in the Qatar Handicap (4.10), in which
has more to offer. At Newmarket,
is fancied to cope with the step up to Listed class for the EBF Chalice Stakes (3.15).
Hughie Morrison’s daughter Kingman still looked in need of the experience when landing a 10-furlong novice event at Newbury and the additional quarter-mile here is just what she needs.
In the Listed Mansionbet Further Flight Stakes (3.50), the application of blinkers may coax
back to life. Top weight may not stop
in the EBF Fillies’ Nursery Handicap (2.05), while
looks well treated in the It’s Not Rocket Science At Mansionbet Handicap (2.40).
