Daithi’s £2.7k lotto win for good deed
Stranger gave student £2 for his help at skip
A STUDENT scooped £1,750 on the Lotto with £2 a stranger gave him for helping her load rubbish into skips.
Liverpool Hope undergraduate Daithi Corr is home in Newry, Co Down, for the summer.
And so far it’s been a very lucky break for the 19-year-old.
He said a woman he helped at a recycling centre really put a smile on his face after having his first year at university cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.
Daithi added: “She had loads of bags of stuff to go into the skips so I went over and told her I would sort it for her.
“I lifted it all in and then when I was getting rid of the last bag she gave me £2 and set it on the skip and told me to buy a lottery ticket. I took it and put it into my pocket and then when I was going to the gym later on that day I made sure that I bought a lottery ticket with that £2.”
Daithi said the ticket rested in his wallet for three days before he checked the numbers on the app and then took it to a local shop to collect his winnings. He added:
“She gave it to me o n a Thursday and I bought the lottery ticket that day. I checked it on the Sunday
“I opened it and had money. I was just really happy because I needed the money for university and other things.”
Despite his windfall, the student said he is a little bit devastated he didn’t get one more number, as he’d have won a cool £4,000,000.
But he said he is “very thankful” to the lady who repaid his help with a gesture that will make life that little bit easier at university next term.
