Balls of fun

-

Top Gear’s Paddy Mcguinness and Freddie Flintoff bring their unique commentary to classic Total Wipeout episodes as contestants take on the Big Red Balls for the chance to win £10,000.

Freddie says: “I think a lot of things have been tried over the years... but nothing’s been as good as Wipeout!

“Even watching the old episodes, it just doesn’t date. It’s still very funny.

“It’s fun, there’s a bit of jeopardy and it’s quite hard so hopefully it’ll go well and who knows – they might make it again.”

The original show – which ran 2009- 2012 – was filmed in Argentina so it wouldn’t be super cheap to fully bring back, but looking at the success of Ninja Warrior, it seems worth a try to us.

Paddy adds: “There was a great response when the news was announced so I really hope people enjoy seeing it back on BBC One. We need those big red balls back in our lives.

“It gives people the chance to sit down and have a laugh together.”

looks set to make a Corrie cameo after he was revealed as Mary Taylor’s secret crush.

The Good Morning Britain host was stunned to find out the character – played by Patti Clare – is a huge fan of his. And he would love to take to the cobbles in person in the near future – but not until social distancing guidelines have been relaxed.

When asked by Patti if he would appear on the show, he said: “I would be there in a shot. But I can’t come up until we’re allowed to hug, though.

“The idea of actually having to social distance from Mary would be difficult ... for both of us.”

Patti joked: “She wouldn’t cope, I think she’d get very aggressive.”
