FRANK LAMPARD’S first season as Chelsea boss has been hailed as “very successful” by club chairman Bruce Buck, who is backing him in a summer spending spree.

Lampard led Chelsea to fourth in the Premier League to guarantee Champions League football next season despite a transfer ban. They also reached the FA Cup final.

“It was a very successful season,” said Buck. “Frank is a very positive force for Chelsea, he carries a lot of credibility and it’s an exciting time.

“We would have been a little bit happier if we had won the FA Cup, but I’m sure the manager and players were gutted not to lift the trophy.”
