GERRARD WARNS LEEDS FLYIN’ RYAN IS NOT FOR SALE

-

RANGERS are braced for another bid for Ryan Kent despite Steven Gerrard warning Leeds United the winger was strictly not for sale.

The Ibrox boss (inset top) confirmed the club have knocked back an offer from Elland Road for

Kent, believed to be £8million rising to

£10m with add-ons.

Leeds are considering raising the stakes again as manager Marcelo

Bielsa (inset bottom) is a long- term admirer of the Liverpool youth product.

Rangers are determined to dig in and they value the forward at more than double the £7m they paid for him.

Gerrard told Leeds to back off and insisted the Gers board are behind him. He said: “That is the message for sure. Hands off. Ryan is a player we admire very much here. He’s a player we’ve seen develop at Liverpool and we brought him here on loan and he did ever so well.

“We went and bought Ryan and showed a lot of faith in him and he’s progressing very, very quickly here. Yes we have had contact from Leeds and an opening bid has been really strongly rejected.

“They are way, way off with that opening bid. That’s the truth and the reality. He’s a player who is not for sale.

“But you know that Premier League teams hold a lot of power and that’s the reality, that’s the way it is. We have to accept that. The message to Leeds is the opening bid is nowhere near the valuation and the player doesn’t really have one as we don’t want to sell.”

Kent is going nowhere as far as Gerrard is concerned but he conceded every player has a price tag. He said: “Ryan’s available and playing against Kilmarnock, that’s my main focus right now. I can’t control what happens in the future.

“Every player has a valuation. The way these things work is that at some point it’s probably taken out of my hands, that’s the reality.

“The good thing is the board are on the same page as me with this one. They don’t want to sell.

“Leeds will need to respect that. They have had a lot of interest in their main players but they have stayed strong. They need to really think hard if they want to come in again.”

Allan Mcgregor is fit to battle with Jon Mclaughlin for the Rangers No.1 slot after the last three games with a knock.

Leon Balogun (quad) and Joe Aribo (ankle) remain out while Jermain Defoe (hamstring) is unlikely to be ready until next month.

Kilmarnock defender Ross Millen is suspended after his red card sparked last week’s late collapse against St Johnstone.
