HOME MOVIE HAS ROBINS REVVED UP

- BY RICHARD LATHAM

TOMAS KALAS’ first reaction at being appointed Bristol City’s new club captain was to put together an inspirational film to show team-mates.

It was viewed in the dressing room before the game and, within 25 seconds of the new Championship campaign getting underway, Jamie Paterson shot Dean Holden’s men in front.

Centre-back Kalas (celebrating above, right, with Zak Vyner) later headed home the winner after Coventry had dominated for long periods. So, it wasn’t a bad first day as Robins skipper for the 27-year-old Czech Republic star.

He said: “It just doesn’t get any better than that – wearing the armband, getting the winner, and taking three points at the start of a season where we want to achieve big things.

“When I was told I was being made captain, I went to the club’s media department with ideas for a film that would highlight we are a team, not a group of individuals.

“There were some quotes

I want the boys to remember and I finished it with a motivational speech, stressing that we are one big family and we are going to fight for each other.

“I don’t know if we are going to watch it before every game but, if it leads to us scoring in the first half-minute, perhaps we should!”

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins, who lost skipper Liam Kelly to a hamstring injury in the first half, was left with mixed feelings.

“Some of our first-half football was excellent,” he said. “But conceding from set-pieces won’t do. The lads are very disappointed in the dressing room – we have thrown away a point.”
