NOW FOR THE JUICY STUFF... THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

-

It’s easier to get your child to build a rocket to the moon than it is to eat their greens, but one mum found the holy grail – and has now written a children’s book about it.

Mum-of-one Selina Brown spent lockdown watching many of her family and friends’ children all eating unhealthily, and she feared for her community in Birmingham. Not only did her grandmother pass away in May, but a few friends died at the height of the pandemic and every day was like something out of a horror movie.

She says: “We were hearing the terrifying daily news about the global spread of the coronavirus and how people with low immune systems could be susceptible to it.

“But I saw people around me bingeeating cakes, chocolate, crisps and fast food because it was more convenient, plus it keeps kids happy.”

The 34-year-old knew that if her two-year-old daughter Ziai and her friends continued to eat that way, there could be serious problems in the future.

She says: “I decided to write Nena: The Green Juice about a five-year-old girl making her first ever healthy juice.”

Juicing is part of Selina’s lifestyle and she’s already introduced her daughter to the bottle of green goodness that would have many children running away in horror.

“My daughter has been drinking green juice from her bottle since she was six months old, so she’s grown to love it,” says Selina. “My tip is to add natural apple juice.”

Parents can look forward to more foodie adventures from Selina’s Nena. Although I don’t need any help to stop my daughter eating sweets or biscuits – I’ve solved the problem by eating them all myself!
