GOAL MACHINE

Celtic hero Duff feels he can score at will

- BY KEITH JACKSON

SIX points and a couple of goals thrown in for good measure.

If Shane Duffy spent his life dreaming about turning out for Celtic, he probably never dared he’d get off to a start quite like this. But now he’s had a taste for

getting on the scoresheet in wins over Ross County and St Mirren, the defender is starting to suspect this hot streak might continue for some time to come.

Duffy said: “I’m delighted with the results, which is the main thing. But it was also good to get off to a good start with a couple of goals and hopefully there’s more to come. I think I can score in every game if I get the chances.

“Scoring isn’t the main thing I concentrate on – that’s keeping clean sheets and winning games – but scoring is a part of my game I’ve always wanted to improve.

“I should have scored many more goals in my career but I’ve missed a lot of chances and that’s something I want to cement. I want to convert more of the openings that come my way but I’ve just got to keep at it and keep getting into the right positions and I know I’ll score eventually.”

It’s not that he sees himself at home at the flashy end of the pitch either. He never has done.

Duffy added: “I must have played every position osition when I was a k i d , I think everyone e does. But since I started taking it t serious it was s always about t defence.

“I played d other positions s at school but t other than that t

I was always a big ‘head and kick it’ man.”

A win on Saturday at home to Livingston will now see the Hoops reclaim pole position ahead of the Ibrox side’s trip to Easter Road on Sunday.

Duffy said: “That’s why it’s important to beat Livingston and Wednesday’s win was very important as well because that was one of our games in hand and it was a n aw kw a rd place to go and play.

“Bu t i t ’s a great motivation for us to be back on top of the league because I feel we belong there.”
