STRONG POINT..

Town out-muscle Seapatrick to progress in Bob Radcliffe

- BY RONNIE HAUGHEY

SEAMUS HEATH’S young Warrenpoint Town U20s rode their luck at Seapatrick on Saturday before coming on strong after the break to set up a clash with either Banbridge Town or Rathfriland Rangers in the second round of the Bob Radcliffe Cup.

The Milltown outfit were under the cosh in the opening half when the Havelock

Park men rattled the crossbar on a couple of occasions and also brought out a few decent stops from the Point keeper Stephen Mcmullan.

In the main it was Seapatrick striker Adam Mcburney who was left shaking his head at his failure to find the net – the Villagers’ opener eventually coming from number 10 Dean Lennon on the stroke of half-time.

However, that’s as good as it got for the Havelock Park men, goals from

Tiarnan Murphy and Amos Sholanke on 56 and 66 minutes earning the boys in sky blue a deserved win, much to Heath’s delight.

“We’ve played our friendlies to date against more physical opponents to ready the boys for challenges like today and I thought they handled the game really well,” said Heath (inset). As a result of their win a stiffer test now lies ahead for the Warrenpoint lads against st the 2019 winners or current holders Rathfriland, a challenge that Heath isn’t relishing.

“We’re on a bit of a hiding to o nothing now no matter who we e meet as either of those two o teams are capable of giving our r young lads a tanking,” added d Heath.

“That said, we’ll prepare as best st as we can and give it our best shot ot when the tie comes round.”
