FINE PORT FOR RICH

BOB RADCLIFEE CUP ROUND-UP

-

TWO goals from Richard Nesbitt and one apiece from Aaron Black and Liam Rice earned Richhill AFC a crack at Portadown U20s in the next round of the Bob Radcliffe Cup – the young Shamrock Park boys themselves recording an impressive 5-1 win on the road at Cookstown RBL.

Last year’s beaten finalists Dungannon Swifts U20s recorded a 7-1 victory at AFC Craigavon and will now host Rectory Rangers who also hit seven in reply to Ambassadors’ five at Ashgrove Park, Markethill.

Meanwhile, at Mourneview Park, the young Lurgan Blues failed to complete a clean sweep for U20s football when they lost 2-0 against Bourneview Mill – Mark Jackson’s Pepperton Park men will now face either Markethill Swifts or Armagh City who will complete their first round tie on Saturday at Holm Park.

Portadown clubs Hanover and St Mary’s also recorded first round wins – goals from Gareth Rees and Henry Capper earning the Brownstown Park men a hard-earned 2-1 success at Fivemiletown United, while Kevin Murphy’s side defeated Craigavon City 4-2.

Hanover will again need to be at their best in their next tie at Windmill Stars – 5-3 penalty shoot-out winners at Coagh United following a 2-2 after extra-time scoreline. St Mary’s will also have to produce a top drawer performance as they’re away to IPL club Dollingstown who were 8-1 winners at Dromore Amateurs where Gary Liggett banged in four, Aaron Duke added two with Taylor and Johnston completing a good day’s work at Ferris Park for manager Scobie Uprichard.

In a repeat of last week’s league fixture, Moneyslane again travelled to Oxford Sunnyside and once more were on the wrong side of the scoreline – Warner Mullen, Ciaran Ryan and Andy Mcalinden scoring the goals in a 3-1 win that will see Paddy Mccrory’s leagueleaders make the short trip to face Lurgan Town – 2-0 winners at Seagoe United.

In the final game of the day Valley Rangers earned themselves another home tie with a 3-0 win over Cookstown Youth – Aaron Parke, Thomas Law and Paul Mccartney (inset above) on target at Bignian Park where Tullyvallen Rangers will be next up in the competition.

Second round games will be played on Saturday, October 3, kick-off 2pm.
