CHRISSY PUTS ’NEIL BACK ON THEIR PERCH

With the hurling title already in the bag, the South Derrymen were full value for their 0-11 to 1-4 big ball win in Bellaghy.

County star Chrissy Mckaigue led by example again with two early points as they opened up a lead they would retain throughout. Slaughtnei­l led a low-scoring game by 0-7 to 0-2 with 20 minutes to go though the margin was cut down to just two after a 41st minute Jared Monaghan goal. Slaughtnei­l’s response was impressive with threet points in a row and a late point frfrom the evergreen Patsy Bradley (inset) secured the four-point win. Meanwhile, Starlights had to come from behind with three late points at Cchadwicks Wexford Park to regain the Wwexford football title.

They trailed holders Castletown by two entering stoppage time but rallied for a 1-11 to 1-9 win. Alan Tobin levelled it before nudging Starlights one clear and Ricky Fox added the insurance score at the death.

Castletown led 1-4 to 0-3 at half-time but couldn’t hold on as Starlights pinched their 11th title - moving them joint top in the roll of honour alongside Castletown.

It was far easier for Adare at the LIT Gaelic Grounds as they romped to a 4-7 to 0-4 win over Ballylande­rs to win their third Limerick title in four seasons.

Hugh Bourke and Shane O’connor struck first half goals while Bourke again and sub Roy Gleeson hit two more after the break.
