MPANZU JIBE MOCKS THE LATE SHOW

- BY STEVE JUDGE

PELLY-RUDDOCK MPANZU called time on Wycombe with a cheeky goal celebration after his opener.

The Luton midfielder collected Harry Cornick’s pass 25 yards out and curled in a worldie.

Mpanzu (above) marked his strike by pointing to an imaginary watch on his wrist in reference to the visitors’ late return for the second half.

Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth blamed his side’s timekeeping on the absence of a buzzer in the boardroom they were using as a dressing room.

But Mpanzu said: “It was all tactical with them coming out late but we handled that well.

“They tried to come and slow the game down, so if you are going to do that and we score first you are going to get punished.

“So that was just to say don’t come and waste time.”

Sub Elliot Lee added Luton’s second, minutes after Wycombe’s Scott Kashket thought he had levelled only for fellow sub Fred Onyedinma to be ruled offside.

That meant a clean sheet for centre-half Matty Pearson on his 100th Luton appearance.

Hatters manager Nathan Jones said: “Matty has kept clean sheets, he’s got goals, he defends and he is not just like that in a game – he is like that playing pool or getting his food. Everything about him is a warrior.”

Wycombe are still without a point or a goal this season.

Ainsworth plans to bring in some more Premier League quality to go with on-loan Everton midfielder Dennis Adeniran.

He said: “We develop players, hopefully people will see that and we will get some cracking players in for this next period.”
