PLAYING OUT WIDE IS BACK WITHIN REACH

- BY JANINE SELF

ADAM REACH hopes he has convinced Owls manager Garry Monk to give him a proper go in his favourite position.

Reach (above), having played as a striker at times for Wednesday this season, was back where he feels he belongs – left wing-back.

The arrival of Callum Paterson from Cardiff added a forward to Monk’s squad and should release Reach from further frontline duty.

“We let a lot of strikers go in the pre-season, so the manager asked me to fill in to help,” he said. “It’s taken a while but he has brought in the players he wants.

“I was delighted to go back to wing-back. In this formation it’s my best position. I have a lot of capabilities there – that’s what I want to do, get wide and get crosses in the box and set up goals. I wasn’t getting a game up front, which was understandable because it’s not my position. It’s not where I want to play.”

Wednesday missed their chance to end a dreadful run of eight league games at home without a win.

An own goal by Yoann Barbet looked enough to give them all the points until injury time when Macauley Bonne marked his debut with an equaliser.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton said: “He’s a confident lad and a good player.”
