Sofia’s honey-powered Rolls-royce is the bees knees
A BRITISH girl aged 11 has come up with the buzz-ness in a Rolls-royce competition – by designing a bee car that runs on honey.
More than 5,000 ideas were submitted across 80 countries as part of the lockdown event.
And the UK winner was a youngster called Sofia, with her posh motor based on a bumblee.
Rolls-royce designers at the firm’s base in Goodwood, Surrey, used the same software they would to produce digital drawings of the car.
CEO Torsten Muller-otvos said: “The winning entry is quite extraordinary. The entries that stood out for us were those that showed a real depth of thought, effort and expression, and incorporated lots of different details.”
Delighted Sofia added: “The Bumblebee 5000 is the very best way to travel and to have parties in with your family and friends.
“With comfortable tables and chairs, a disco ball, the best surround sound system, wi-fi, GPS, a hook for luggage and much more, it makes it the best option on the automobile market. You will never see anything else like it.” Bespoke Design chief Gavin Hartley said: “We were particularly drawn to Bumblebee 5000 because it’s all about sociability, having fun, sharing good times and enjoying the finer things in life, which is exactly what Rolls-royce is all about.”
Sofia won a chauffeur-driven ride to school in a Rolls-royce with a friend after her triumph in the Young Designer Competition. Her school will also have an electric car kit installed, so they can participate in Greenpower motorsport events.
