KEY KLOPP ON FIRMINO NO GOALS... NO PROBLEM

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

LIVERPOOL have had 10 different goalscorers this season – but centreforward Roberto Firmino is not among them.

And in 10 games against neighbours Everton, he has NEVER found the net.

With Dominic Calvert-lewin on fire at Goodison, it brings into sharp focus Firmino’s goalscoring woes. The Brazilian has scored only three times in the Premier League this calendar year.

But while some critics have sharpened the knife,

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is unconcerned.

“I don’t know when it becomes a problem for me but it is not even close to becoming a problem,” Klopp said.

“This is where I have to be different from the outside world. I can’t judge things like you judge them. For me what is important is how influential the player is, how he works for the team.

“We lost the last Premier League game but before that we had won them all. Bobby hadn’t scored in them but he had been incredibly influential.

That is what is important That is what I look at.”

Klopp accepts, though, that his striker’s record is bound to trigger serious questions

The 29-year-old (with Klopp, above) scored only nine goals in total in last season’s title-winning campaign, just one of them at Anfield. By contrast, Mo Salah weighed in with 19 Premier

Lea League goals last term and Sadio Mane scored 18.

Klopp said: “Yes, we want him to score. We want him to come into the positions where he scores. Yes could have scored a at Villa, early. Twice for sure. ““He doesn’t like that. I don’t like that. But it is not the thing I think about when I think about Bobby.

“If a player like Bobby is not scoring, people focus on that. But he scored twice for Brazil and is in top shape, to be honest.”

Klopp has Mane (above) and Thiago back after coronavirus quarantine, but Naby Keita is out following his virus issues with the Guinea national team.
