VIV HAT-TRICK MAKES HER 52 GOAL TOP GUN

- BY JON WEST

VIVIANNE MIEDEMA smashed the Women’s Super League goals record in ARSENAL’S 6-1 hammering of TOTTENHAM.

The Holland striker’s hat-trick took her total to 52, three ahead of the previous best of 49, set by Nikita Parris.

Miedema (above, celebrating) said: “I’m happy I could help the team and I hope there are a lot more goals to follow.

“This season is still long and obviously I’ve got a contract here next season as well, so hopefully I can keep going. I’m happy we won today and that was the main focus.”

Caitlin Foord scored two of the Gunners’ goals, with Katie Mccabe also on target.

Lucia Leon headed a consolation for Spurs after keeper Manuela Zinsberger saved a Rianna Dean penalty.

MANCHESTER CITY were held to a 1-1 draw at READING, who led early on thanks to an Amelie Eikeland goal. City, last season’s runners-up, levelled through Sam Mewis (above) but could not find a winner.

Alessia Russo struck twice as MANCHESTER UNITED won 4-2 at WEST HAM, but EVERTON dropped points for the first time this season.

Aileen Whelan’s late strike earned BRIGHTON a 2-2 draw after the Toffees had recovered from a Rikke Sevecke ninthminute own goal to take the lead.

Brighton’s Kayleigh Green appeared to be shown a second yellow card by referee Lucy Oliver but was not sent off.

Albion boss Hope Powell said: “I wasn’t sure. The gods were on our side.

“If she did get a second yellow then I am sure Everton wouldn’t be pleased about that.”

Rachel Corsie, Mollie Green, Claudia Walker and Christie Murray netted in BIRMINGHAM’S 4-0 romp at BRISTOL CITY.

The Robins are bottom of the table, have yet to pick up a point this season and have conceded 20 goals in their four games.
