LATE SAVIOUR WOODY OUT TO REPAY TYKES

- BY ADAM LANIGAN

BARNSLEY were determined not to let go of Cauley Woodrow during the transfer window and now the striker is out to repay the club’s faith in him.

The Tykes’ top scorer last season, Woodrow signed a one-year extension to his contract on Friday, after the Yorkshire club fended off interest from Cardiff.

Then, 24 hours later, he stepped up to score a penalty with the last kick of the game (above) to rescue only the Tykes’ second point of the season.

“It was nice for me to sign the new contract so, to repay the club with a goal, I’m over the moon,” said Woodrow, 25. “It’s nice to get away from the distraction and know that my future is clear.

“Now I can focus purely on my football and Barnsley, and I’m looking forward to the future.”

Barnsley’s next task is finding a permanent manager with Gerhard Struber having taken over at MLS side New York Red Bulls.

Adam Murray is in caretaker charge and Woodrow said: “We are fully focused on playing well for Muz. He’s a good coach and a good man – our performance on Saturday showed the lads are fully behind him.”

Woodrow’s injury-time equaliser cost Bristol City their

100 per cent record. Jack Hunt and Tyreeq Bakinson had turned around Michal Helik’s secondminute opener, but the Robins remain top on goal difference.

Tomorrow’s game at home to Middlesbrough is the first of seven midweek rounds before Christmas.

“Seven games in 21 days is a bit mad after a two-week break, but that’s the Championship,” said manager Dean Holden. “We’ll get a taste of everything over the next six or seven games, and then know where we’re at in terms of how we’re going to go this season.” BARNSLEY: Walton 6, Sollbauer 6, Helik 6, Andersen 6, J Williams 6, Mowatt 7, Thomas 6, Palmer 6 (Kane 57, 4), Oduor 6 (Simoes 63, 4), Chaplin 6 (Frieser 77, 3), Woodrow 6 BRISTOL CITY: O’leary 6, Vyner 6, Moore 6, Mawson 6, Hunt 8, Paterson 6 (O’dowda 85), Bakinson 7,
