HOME NOT SO SWEET FOR FARKE NOW

- BY ELIZABETH BYRNES

NORWICH manager Daniel Farke believes home advantage does not count for too much now there are no fans at games.

The Canaries host Birmingham tomorrow and Wycombe on Saturday and will look to build on this victory, where Jordan Hugill’s injury-time penalty (celebrated above) secured all three points and was one of six away wins in the Championship on Saturday.

While Canaries boss Farke thinks there are benefits for the home team, he added: “In general it doesn’t matter that much for me because it’s the same game. It’s 11 v 11 and two rectangles at the end of the pitch and you try to score. The rules are the same in an away game and home game.

“But because supporters are not around, the massive advantage of home games has also gone away a bit. The results on Saturday prove this again and the statistics in general prove it.”

Rotherham took a third-minute lead through Freddie Ladapo, who had a penalty saved by Tim Krul.

The game turned in a two-minute spell when Michael Ihiekwe’s own goal was followed by a straight red for Angus Macdonald for a studs-up challenge on Oliver Skipp.

Debutant Florian Jozefzoon fouled Emi Buendia for the penalty, the Millers conceding in stoppage-time for the third match in a row. They had plenty of chances and midfielder Dan Barlaser knows they must be more clinical, starting at Nottingham Forest tomorrow. He said: “You get punished if you don’t take your chances in this league, so we’re going to have to learn quickly.”
