HARD COR HUDD

Tough training paying off for Terriers under new boss who learned from master Bielsa

- BY GRAHAM THOMAS

CHRIS SCHINDLER believes Huddersfield players are finally mad for their mini ‘El Loco’.

The Terriers captain is singing th e prai ses of manager Carlos Corberan, who learnt at the upturned bucket of Marcelo Bielsa during their touchline time together at Leeds.

Bielsa promoted Spaniard Corberan from Under-23 coach to firstteam duties at Elland Road, but the influence of the Argentine master was hard to accept, says Schindler, when Corberan (right) took charge of the Terriers in the summer.

“Carlos came in and has been very demanding,” said Schindler, after his side made it seven points out of the last nine by ending Swansea’s unbeaten start.

“He has a unique style of playing football and you can tell he has worked with a lot of successful managers.

“He puts a very physical demand on us and not having had any break between the two seasons has been tough.

“I’ve also struggled with some small injuries in the last few weeks because my body has been een adapting to a completely different workload and intensity.

“Bu t a l o t of things are now falling into place and working. Relationships still need to improve on the pitch, but that i s only going to happen through more hard work.”

Since Schindler’s fellow German David Wagner left, Town have moved through managers fast, but the skipper reckons calm is being restored.

“After getting relegated and then starting really slowly in the Championship, it killed the morale of the team. It took a lot of energy to get out of this,” said Schindler. “But it feels the cloud is lifting. Good results help to create some positivity and things can suddenly happ en magically.”

The Terriers went ahead through Harr y Tof folo (above), looked vulnerable when Andre Ayew levelled on his 100th appearance for Swansea, but rallied agai again when Josh Koroma (left) struck a stunning winner.

For the Swans, it was an instant reality check of just how badly they may miss Wales centre-back Joe Rodon, who joined Tottenham on deadline day for £11million (£15m with add-ons).

He a d c o a c h S t e v e Cooper has drafted in four players on various freebie deals, but even one of those – Kasey Palmer – is gutted Rodon has gone.

The winger, on l oan from Bristol City, said: “It’s disappointing I won’t get the opportunity to play with him, but it’s a dream move for anyone to go to the Premier League, so I hope he does well.”
