Hammers make noise for Moyes

-

THERE is no really good Plan B for Liverpool with Virgil van Dijk sidelined for months, so they will just have to grin and bear it with maybe Joe Gomez and Fabinho in central defence. I don’t see Joel Matip as the answer — or perhaps switching to a back three.

Van Dijk’s injury does change the title race and Manchester City are now my favourites.

TEN goals from three games, seven points from Wolves, Leicester and Tottenham along with two out of three clean sheets.

And, all of a sudden, naysayers like me are piping right down about

David Moyes (below) and West Ham.

I said when the Hammers boss tested positive for Covid that it would be a good excuse to sack him and that Alan Irvine, Stuart Pearce and Kevin Nolan would need to find something special between them to fill the breach.

But, boy, did they do that and all concerned deserve praise.

Even the most ardent of West

Ham fans wouldn’t have expected them to play with such confidence, resolve and desire in their last few games but they have, so now we turn to the next part of the puzzle.

Which is producing the sort of consistency that a squad capable of finishing in the top 10 should be capable of producing.

That means joint chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold going into self-isolation from anything West Ham-related to let the management team kick on.

And then let’s see if these players have the stomach to compete higher up the league.

Because if they now become big-time after three great results and bottle it, it won’t be Moyes who deserves the bullet – but those who will have let him down so badly.
