RAISE WHITE FLAG? NOT IN WILD-EST DREAMS

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

CHRIS WILDER is adamant Sheffield

United will not throw in the towel despite a cruel defeat at

Anfield which anchors them in the relegation zone.

The Blades went ahead through a spot- kick from Sander

Berge (celebrating, right) ght) and had two more decent cent penalty shouts as they ey took the game to

Liverpool. But a late winner from Kop new boy Diogo Jota means they have just one point from six games. Were that return to continue throughout the campaign, they would end up with seven points!

But Blades boss Wilder said: “We’re not feeling sorry for ourselves – there are no white flags going up.

“It is ruthless and cruel, this division, and this result was a hard one to take. We had opportunities to get a result and we know we could have. There is a lot of disappointment in our dressing room.

“Liverpool are an incredible team so to come away d disappointed that we didn didn’t get a result shows we’re not far off. It wasn’t one-way traffic and while that is the disappointing aspect from tonight, it is also the most encouraging.”

Wilder believes his s side have to be more res resilient at the back. “W “We are not far off where we were last season yet we are something like 15 points behind what we had,” he said. “The defence hasn’t been quite as strong and we haven’t been quite as sharp up front, and that’s the difference in points.

“We could have done better with both Liverpool goals, and we could have done better with the chances we created.”
