AJAX TAKE OUT ANGER ON VENLO

- BY IAN WINROW

LASSINA TRAORE revealed Ajax were fired up by the midweek loss against Liverpool ahead of their record-breaking 13-0 win over Vvv-venlo.

Traore (above, with Antony and Davy Klaassen, celebrating his side’s sixth goal) scored five times as Erik ten Hag’s side recorded the biggest victory in Eredivisie history, beating the 12-1 defeat of Vitesse Arnhem by Johan Cruyff’s Ajax in 1972.

The 19-year-old admitted defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side had made his teammates angry.

And he said: “We have respect for them, but once on the field we gave everything and became even angrier.”

Venlo coach Hans de Koning said: “This is a game we want to bury deep underground and pour concrete over.”

Philippe Coutinho added to Barcelona’s woes when he was ruled out of this week’s Champions League trip to take on Juventus with a hamstring injury following the 3-1 home defeat to Real Madrid.

Sergio Ramos’s controversial penalty – awarded by VAR review – proved to be the turning point.

Barca coach Ronald Koeman said: “I think it’s only VAR when it’s something against Barcelona. We have now five games and we did not have any decision by the VAR in our hands.”

RB Leipzig remain at the top of the Bundesliga ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League visit to Manchester United after beating Hertha Berlin 2-1 on Saturday.

Marseille won 1-0 at Lorient ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Manchester City.

Royal Antwerp warmed up for Thursday’s Europa League visit of Tottenham with a 3-2 win over Beerschot yesterday.
