Dyche: Bosses like Jose and Pep would find it hard staying at one club for a long time.. I don’t have to win the league every season

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

SEAN DYCHE claims it is tough for Jose Mourinho to clock up eight years at one club like he has with Burnley.

Dyche, 49, the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, celebrates his eighth anniversary as boss at Turf Moor this week.

Mourinho’s longest stint at one club was three years and four months in his first spell at Chelsea – and Dyche (right) feels the ultrahigh demands at the top sides makes longevity hard.

He said: “I think Jose has mentioned being part of a longer term project, but the demands at the clubs he has been at are incredibly high – and that’s a different ball game. Pep Guardiola asked me the other week if it had been tough and I said, ‘Yeah, very’ and he said, ‘Finance?’ and I said, ‘ Yeah’.

“He said, ‘I don’t have a problem with that’ and I said, ‘ Yeah, but you’ve gotta win the league, mate’.

“The juggling acts are at different levels. You look at Jose and he’s been at top clubs.

“It seems there’s a much more limited time span unless you are literally winning all the time over a long period. And Alex Ferguson is the only one who has won and won and won all the time in the modern era.”

Dyche faces Mourinho tonight at Turf Moor and he has huge respect for the Special One because he is a serial winner.

Mourinho has lifted trophies with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United – and Dyche admires his knack of finding ways to succeed.

“I’m a fan of his because he wins,” he said. “He wins and wins.

“He finds a way of winning and that’s always been my thought on management. If you can do it in a great style, then great. If you can’t, you’ve still got to win.

“The distinction is if you are in development football, teaching the game, teaching dif ferent styles.

“But if you’re a manager, you’ve got to win and he invariably wins. That’s enough for me to show him respect, he wins.”
