Morgan reveals he refused to bow to pressure in bitter lockdown row

KIRSTIE Allsopp called TV chiefs demanding an apology from Piers Morgan after a public spat between the two presenters, he claims.

The pair clashed in March after Location, Location, Location star Kirstie was criticised for travelling to her second home in Devon during lockdown.

When she complained about the backlash, Good Morning Britain host Piers told her to stop moaning and help support NHS workers instead.

Now he claims she complained to bosses. He says: “She got a load of TV execs to call me up trying to get me to stop and apologise.

“I was like, ‘ You’ve got to be joking’. It was a very short phone call. I said, ‘I’m entitled to my opinion and I intend to keep saying it’, which they accepted.”

Piers went on: “Everyone’s going to have an opinion but you should respect opinions you don’t agree with.” Kirstie denies she ever complained to bosses.

Amid the backlash over her trip to Devon, Kirstie wrote on Twitter at the time: “The last 24 hours has been utterly horrible, full of vile, unpleasant and frankly frightening comments.” Piers retweeted her post, replying: “Kirstie, you’re rich, privileged and isolating in a lavish country home with your family. Maybe stop making this crisis about your struggle with trolls and direct your energy into rallying support for NHS workers risking their lives for us all in very dangerous circumstances?”

Kirstie hit back: “You total b*****d, there was no need to retweet that to your millions of followers, it was a totally unnecessary and unkind thing to do.”

It came just days after Kirstie had been muted while appearing on GMB as she attacked Piers’ criticism of the Government’s handling of the pandemic.

And prior to that she had branded Piers “irresponsible” after he criticised Donald Trump for suspending all travel between the US and Europe, excluding the UK and Ireland. Piers, 55, lays bare a number of his showbiz feuds in his riveting new book Wake Up.

Last night Kirstie denied contacting TV chiefs to ask Piers to apologise, telling the Mirror : “I’m sure Piers can find ways to promote his book which don’t involve bringing my name up.”
