REAL ESCAPE AT CASEMIRO SAVES DAY

-

REAL MADRID staged an amazing late recovery to save their Champions League skins last night.

The 13-times champions of Europe were heading for a second straight defeat as they trailed BORUSSIA MOENCHENGLADBACH 2-0 with three minutes to go. Marcus Thuram, the son of France World Cup winner Lilian, had struck twice for the Germans.

Then Karim Benzema pulled one back in the 87th minute and deep into injury-time Casemiro hit the equaliser.

Holders Bayern Munich extended their winning run in the Champions League to 13 games as Joshua Kimmich’s late volley saw off LOKOMOTIV MOSCOW 2-1.

Leon Goretzka gave Bayern the lead but the German champions wasted a string of chances to extend their lead before Anton Miranchuk punished their wastefulness.

But Kimmich’s 79th-minute strike won it for Bayern to already put them in a strong position in Group A.

The Russians, had the game’s first decent chance through Fyodor Smolov’s third-minute header.

But Goretzka showed him how it was done, nodding in a Benjamin Pavard cross from close range.

Kimmich missed another good chance but the midfielder made amends late with a fine volleyed winner he made look easy.

SHAKHTAR DONETSK – who stunned Real last time out – earned a precious result by collecting a point t in their 0-0 draw against INTER MILAN. N.

Inter twice hit the bar – via Nicolo o Barella and then through former Premier League star Romelu Lukaku u– – while Lautaro Martinez also somehow ow missed to ensure Shakhtar enjoyed another fine night
