DANNY: ETON TOFFS ARE UNFIT TO RUN COUNTRY

- BY ASHLEIGH RAINBIRD ashleigh.rainbird@mirror.co.uk @arainbird

DANNY Dyer says the pandemic has proved that people who went to Eton “can’t run this country”.

The 43-year-old Eastenders star says working-class people who have “lived a real life” should rise to power after the current Government “unravels”.

In what he described as a rant, he said: “We must learn now that the people who went to Eton can’t run this country.

“They’ve done it, they’ve tried to do it and this little small group who all went to the same school in the same class, it doesn’t work.

“We need some working-class people, people who have lived a real life, people in touch with what’s going on in reality, to maybe come to the front and start to get involved in how this country is run.”

The boarding school, near Windsor in Berkshire, counts Prime Minister Boris

Johnson and former PM David Cameron among its old students. Danny also complains that Government Covid restrictions are very confusing, saying: “Just keep them simple and then people will abide by it.” Asked if he would ever go into politics full-time, his daughter Dani – speaking alongside him on BBC Breakfast – said: “Oh, imagine.” Danny said: “No, darling, I’m too busy. I’ve got a game show on at the moment, another podcast with my daughter and of course I am in the greatest soap that has ever been, so I am all right for the minute. So let’s just watch the Government unravel themselves.”

In June 2018, Danny offered his thoughts on Brexit, labelling Mr Cameron a “t***” for calling the EU referendum, and complained of seeing him on holiday in Nice “with his trotters up”.
