‘MY BHOYS WILL MAKE HISTORY’

- BY IAN WINROW BY SIMON BIRD

NEIL LENNON says his Celtic players are

“achieving greatness” after moving one step closer to a fourth consecutive treble.

Lennon’s side set up a Scottish Cup final meeting with second-tier Hearts on December 20 after beating Aberdeen 2-0 yesterday at Hampden Park.

First-half goals by Ryan Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi (above) ensured Celtic bounced back after a run of four games without a win.

With the competition delayed from last season due to the pandemic, boss Lennon said: “The players are buzzing and it will be an amazing achievement if they can do it.

”There’s one game to go and it’s going to be difficult – Hearts produced a great result and performance on Saturday – but these players, their focus and desire to win is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

“They are achieving greatness as they go along and that sometimes gets overlooked at times. I am really proud of them.”

Celtic will be strong favourites against Hearts, who booked their place by beating Edinburgh rivals Hibernian 2-1 after extra time on Saturday.

Midfielder Christie insisted there was no risk of Lennon’s side losing focus.

He said: “Buzzing to get through to another final.

“It’s another chance when we get to that final to make history, but there are a lot of games in Europe and domestically before then to concentrate on.”

Meanwhile, Rangers moved nine points clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a 1-0 win at Kilmarnock.

James Tavernier’s 19th-minute penalty secured the points, though boss Steven Gerrard insists he will be not be studying the league table.

Celtic have two games in hand and Gerrard said: “It’s not the stage of the season to be looking at the league table.”

SCOTT PARKER insists that he was right to warn his Fulham side they face a relegation scrap – to prepare them for the highs and lows of the battle ahead.

The Baggies boss has accused his players of falling to pieces the moment something goes against them. West Brom take on Fulham tonight with both sides looking to claim their first win and Bilic (right) said: “We started well against Brighton and then the first time they do something it’s like we think ‘Oh, my God, they’re good.’ Next thing you know, we struggle for about 15 minutes. We made it worse with our fear.
“It’s like we shrink a bit and then, because of that, the other side do something again. We can’t allow it to last. We’re doing everything we can to get that first win. There’s no crying about it, you just have to go out there and try to get it.
“We see Fulham as a good opportunity to do that, but they will feel exactly the same way.”
