Jones & Edmundson slammed for Covid breach
SHAMED Jordan Jones and George Edmundson are set to be dragged into the dock by the SFA after being suspended by Rangers for breaching coronavirus protocol to go to a house party.
The disgraced duo were fined by cops in the early hours of Monday nday after being caught breaching g Covid-19 restrictions by attending the gathering at a flat in Glasgow’s west end.
And they were hammered by their own club bosses yesterday morning when Rangers announced both players have been banned from the club’s training ground pending an investigation into the rule break that will likely result in heavy fines.
Jones and Edmundson (inset) have also been ordered to self isolate for 14 days in line with the club’s own strict guidelines.
But now c ompli ance of f i cer Clare Whyte is set to wade into the controversy having already had to dish out suspensions to a number of high-profile top flight stars, including the Aberdeen Eight and C eltic full full-back b Boli Bolingoli.
It is expected both players will be hit with notices of complaint while they wait to discover if they have a future under manager Steven Gerrard. The rest of Gerrard’s squad has not been affected by the night out as they were given Monday off, following the 1-0 win at Kilmarnock on Sunday which opened up a nine-point gap over Celtic at the top of the table.
But all of that did little to lighten the mood around the Ibrox club following the news that two of Gerrard’s men had been guilty of breaking the law.
In a tersely worded statement the club said: “Both players breached Covid regulations by attending a private gathering with others outside of their household. We can confirm both players will be suspended pending an internal investigation.”
And Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson revealed he convened an emergency summit with Gerrard and the club’s top brass after learning of the breach.
He added: “We are completely aligned in our action and the standards that are being set at Rangers.”
The Scottish Government said: “We commend Rangers for taking such swift and decisive action in this instance, to protect the rest of their squad and wider public.”
