GLASS HALF FULL FOR WILDER

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

CHRIS WILDER has joked he is trying to find the answer to Sheffield

United’s slump “in the bottom of a pint pot”.

Wilder has always liked a beer and says he has been drinking more to cheer himself up because of the Blades’ poor start to the season.

United have just one point so far and Wilder says having a few drinks helps him cope with the pressure.

“No one will be surprised to hear my response, I just drink more,” he quipped.

“I always find the answer in the bottom of a pint pot, always. I just have a little bit more to drink. I don’t think that’s the right thing to say at this particular moment, but you have a little bit more to drink and you feel better about yourself.

“I’ll have a bit of Guinness, I’ll have a cold one, a warm one, I’ll have a draft, I’ll have one out of th the fridge. It all d does the same jo job, doesn’t it?”

Wilder (left) has retained his sense of humour a and says fighting h his way up as a manager from non-league to the top flight keeps his current troubles in perspective.

“I don’t think I’ve had a stellar football career,” he said. “Obviously, I’m coming up against Frank Lampard and he’s had a fabulous playing career, won everything and done everything, captained his country, captained Chelsea.

“Then he goes to Derby, takes them to the play-off final, gets the Chelsea job.

“My career is a little bit different to that. I’ve had quite a few down days and down times, but you come through it through experience and belief in what you’re doing is right.”

Today’s trip to Chelsea completes a nightmare run for the Blades after facing Liverpool and

Manchester

City in their previous two matches.

But Wilder added: “Our future in this division is going to be defined by the results we have against the teams around us.

“It won’t be defined by our results against Liverpool, Manchester City or Chelsea. It’s a challenge always and you have to deal with it. It’s not enjoyable, but this is it and it’s there to test you.”
