WHEN it comes to the crunch, Britain’s favourite crisps are Walkers Cheese & Onion, research reveals.

The classic snack in a blue pack beat beef f lavoured Monster Munch – also made by Walkers – to be crowned king of the crisps.

The snack giant also nabbed third place with its Salt & Vinegar crisps – said to be Match of the Day host Gary Lineker’s favourite.

The brand is based i n Leicester where brand ambassador Gary, 59, hails from and the flavour was once temporarily renamed Salt & Lineker to mark the 20th anniversary of their association.

Pringles Original took fourth place, with beef Hula Hoops and Crispy Bacon Frazzles also making the top 10.

The survey of 2,000 adults by pollster Perspectus Global p u t c h i l d re n’s f av o u r it e s Wotsits, Quavers and Nik Naks in the top 20 along with more grown up nibbles such as Scampi Fries and Doritos.

CLASSIC

According to the study, snackers prefer classic flavours such as cheese, beef and ready salted to posh crisps tasting of ingredients like rosemary, cracked black pepper, truffle and Iberico ham.

The research found Britons each munch through a packet of crisps a day on average.

In age groups, 16 to 29-yearolds ate 1.14 packets a day, or eight a week – twice as many as the over 60s.

Perspectus Global’s Ellie Glason said: “Brits are a nation of crisp lovers, so we thought it would be interesting to see which brands and flavours we love the most.

“It’s great that while more modern snack s such as Pringles and Doritos are popular, we still love many of our childhood favourites.”
