Johnson’s lost without Trump

- FIONA PARKER Edited by

The defeat of Brexit-loving Trump must be a disappointment to his chum Nigel Farage and worry our Trump-lite PM and his Tory government, with their casual attitudes to breaking international treaties and jeopardising the Good Friday Agreement.

Still, as we face trade talks with the new Biden administration, at least we can take consolation in the thought that they need us more than we need them.

Oh, wait a minute, that was the EU, wasn’t it? Well, maybe it’s true of the US too. Maybe it’s true of everyone. Let’s hope so!

Alternatively, we could rebrand global Britain via the traditional virtues of being a good neighbour, a realistic negotiator and a keeper of international agreements.

It might catch on!

Martyn Whittock Bradford-on-avon, Wilts

Now that the Americans have got rid of Trump, wouldn’t it be amazing if Johnson and Brexit went the same way?

Sadly, that’s not going to happen. I think a few years down the line, Britain’s experiment with populist politics will be viewed as one of the biggest mistakes in history. With calls f or Scottish independence growing and Joe Biden likely to support a vote on a united Ireland, where does that leave us? I hope all those who gave Johnson his 80-seat maj o r i ty a re p l e a s e d with themselves.

D Slater, Corby, Northants At last the Trump circus is to leave town. Some might be sorry to see him go but he

was a danger to the whole world.

Now we just want Trump clone Johnson to leave. In fact, why don’t the populist demagogues across the world do the decent thing and step aside for true leaders?

It defies belief that people vote for these self-centered narcissists in the first place.

How can they be so gullible to fall for all the lies and untruths?

They should have known the difference between democracy and being conned.

When a family like the Trumps get involved in politics it’s not going to end well. Their prime concern is keeping hold of power and furthering their own interests.

They are used to entitlement and think the rule of law doesn’t apply to them. For a Machiavellian like Trump, winning and being number one is paramount.

Anyone who is surprised at his reaction to the election result hasn’t been paying attention. Sadly, more than 70 million Americans backed his caustic brand of politics

and Biden has his work cut out to bring the country together.

Thankfully Mr Trump has lost the election. Now is surely the time to pile the pressure on our own mini Trump – a clone in every way.

Time to forget the niceties, Mr Starmer, and go all out to rid us of the most useless Prime Minister we have ever had.

Tony Sykes, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

The world is a better and safer place now the American people have at last rid themselves of the egotistic maniac Trump.

On his watch, the US was a tinderbox ready to ignite any day. His idiotic ideals not only affected the people of America but the whole world, which can now breathe a massive sigh of relief.

What a fantastic result for Biden. Let’s hope this is replicated for Sir Kier Starmer and Labour in 2024.
