WITH A TWIST
Taste the Difference 4 Maple & Pecan Mince Pies, £2, Sainsbury’s A good combination of flavours and textures that worked well together. Light, buttery pastry and a sweet, crunchy mouth-watering filling. SCORE: 9/10
Mr Kipling 6 Iced Top Mince Pies,
£1.50, Iceland Looked festive and pretty with white iced top and shiny sprinkles, but there was far too much pastry and we found the topping too sweet. SCORE: 5/10
Specially Selected 6 Sloe Gin Mince Tarts, BEST FOR BUDGET
£2.49, Aldi
Elegant lattice designs and light golden pastry topped with flaked almonds. The wonderful mincemeat filling laced with sloe gin really delivered on flavour. SCORE: 10/10
Extra Special 6 Salted Caramel Mince Pies,
£2, Asda
Claggy pastry and a hideous gooey filling that tasted of burnt toffee meant we were unable to finish this one. It looked appetising but failed on taste. SCORE: 2/10
Deluxe 6 Luxury Salted Caramel Mince Pies,
£1.99, Lidl
Festive with a glittery appearance.
Had just the right hint of salted caramel that wasn’t overpowering and a nice crunchy topping. SCORE: 8/10
Heston 6 Night Before Christmas Mince Pies,
£2.80, Waitrose & Partners BEST FOR POSH
A taste sensation of juicy, fruity filling with a hint of sherry in delicious, crunchy carrot and caraway pastry, topped with amazing smoked sugar. SCORE: 10/10
Percy ercy Pig 4 Percymas Pies, Pies Marks & Spencer
£2, £2
With sponge and pink fondant icing, it’s more cupcake than pie but Percy fans will pig out on these as each has a signature sweet as decoration. Yummy. SCORE: 8/10
