Maddie case suspect loses freedom bid
THE chief susp ect in the Madeleine Mccann case will remain behind bars until 2026 after losing hi s bid to overturn a rape conviction.
Investigators b elie ve Christian Brueckner, 43, killed Maddie, three, after abducting her from a flat in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007. Brueckner denies any involvement.
In 2019, he was jailed for seven years for raping a woman of 72. A court yesterday rejected his appeal against the conviction.
Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said he was “pleased” the judgment had been upheld. He has previously said there was “concrete evidence” but no “forensic evidence” that Brueckner killed Maddie. They do not have enough evidence to charge him.
