Five killed by gas cookers 'unlawfully'

FIVE people fatally poisoned by their gas cookers were unlawfully killed, an inquest heard.

Friends Richard Smith, 30, and Kevin Branton, 34, died in Saltash in 2010.

John Cook, 90, his wife Audrey, 86, and daughter Maureen, 47, were found dead in their static caravan in Camborne in 2013.

Barrister Rob Harland, representi­ng families of t h e d e c e a s e d , i nv it e d Cornwall assistant coroner Geraint Williams to record "unlawful killing" verdicts.

The court has heard that a rubber seal around grill doors in ovens made by Turkish firm Arcelik let carbon monoxide build up.

Ben Compton QC, for Arcelik brand Beko, said the verdict was not justified. The coroner’s ruling is expected on Monday.
