A BARGAIN bottle of supermarket bubbly has been declared a corker, beating posh labels that cost twice the price.

Judges gave Morrisons’ £18 Adrien Chopin Brut 82 out of 100 and awarded it the Which? Best Buy award.

The “top class festive fizz” b beat big names including M Moet & Chandon, which is £36 a bottle, Lanson at £33 and Veuve Clicquot at £35.

Waitrose’s £19.99 Brut Champagne came second in the blind taste test of 18 brands, with a score of 79.

Experts said it has “ripe red apples and apple blossom character”. Sharing third place were Moet & Chandon for £36 and Sainsbury’s Landric Champagne costing £25 with 78 each.

The panel included TV wine guru Oz Clarke and writer Charles Metcalfe, a judge of the International Wine Challenge.

It was split over the Moet, with one expert describing it as “a little bland” while others enjoyed its “candied notes, mellow aromas, crisp acidity and a cashew nut finish”.
