ISMAEL: WE DON’T EVER TYKE FOOT OFF THE GAS

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

THERE will be no let up for struggling Tranmere when they visit high-flying Barnsley tomorrow.

The League Two club go into the FA Cup tie with the Tykes just one win away from the Championship play-off places and having strengthened in the transfer window with two signings to help the push towards the Premier League.

And Barnsley boss Valerien

Ismael (left) – who has a 62 per cent win ratio since taking over in October – will not rest players for the promotion fight by picking a weakened line-up.

He said: “We won’t change our mindset. We want to go through, to get to the next stage and play with our principles, from the first to the last minute. We have prepared for this as though it is a Championship game as usual.

“The FA Cup is watched around the world. I was lucky enough to play in the competition as a player and I know what it means to football, and to this club having had success previously.

“We want to go as far as we possibly can.”

New recruits Carlton Morris Liam Kitching are cup-tied but Conor Chaplin and Brad Collins return, which suggests a strong team to face Rovers.

Tranmere won just twice last month under manager Keith Hill, who took charge in November.

And he is looking for his team to produce a major shock after the frustration of seeing their last fixture – a visit to Colchester – called off less than 90 minutes before kick off because of Covid.

“It is a chance for us to show who we are and we want to show we can be competitive in this cup tie,” said Hill.
