HOMEOPATH SICK CLAIMS SILENCED
The wingnuts at the Society of Homeopaths have lost their official accreditation and will no longer be able to claim approval by the Professional Standards Authority, which oversees regulators of health professionals.
The authority said it acted following online posts by Sue Pilkington, head of the society’s professional standards and safeguarding.
The posts “appeared to contravene the Cancer Act and promote anti-vaccination messages” it ruled.
There were also concerns that some homeopaths were ignoring the Professional Standards Authority’s instructions to stop promoting a treatment known as Complete Elimination of Autistic Spectrum Expression, or CEASE.
Among those pleased by the news is the charity Humanists UK, which called the action long overdue.
“The accreditation of the Society of Homeopaths gave public false confidence that the ‘treatments’ offered by its members are safe and credible when this is far from the case,” said Richy Thompson, Director of Public Affairs and Policy at Humanists UK.
“The society’s failure to comply with even the most basic conditions to ensure public safety and compliance with their own ethical code shows that it is not fit to be recognised as a medical body.”
In March I told how the society was exploiting the pandemic, saying on its website: “Homeopathic options can form one part of your approach to the current Covid-19 outbreak”.
These options including treatments that effectively contain no active ingredients whatsoever, wasting your money and time and potentially raising false hope of a cure.
