THEY’RE a welcome distraction in lockdown Britain...
Eighties pop star Toyah and musician husband Robert Fripp have got millions of fans rocking out to quirky cover versions which she posts online.
The It’s A Mystery singer, 62, gets dressed up and gives it her all accompanied by guitarist husband Robert Fripp, 74.
Their version of Metallica’s Enter Sandman, featuring Toyah in white and using an exercise bike, has been viewed more than 3.7 million times on Youtube.
King Crimson founder Robert said: “Toyah is insistent that performers have a responsibility to perform and to lift people’s spirits. So I strap on my guitar and rock out! What better for rocking out than rock classics?”
Toyah added: “We choose
songs we love, for people to enjoy. I am also passionate that women of my age express their inner rock goddess.”
The couple started doing “Toyah and Robert’s Sunday Lunch” videos during the first lockdown in May.
Toyah’s wild performances as Robert remains stony-faced has sent them viral.
The star, full name Toyah Ann
Willcox, dressed as a cheerleader for Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell and pumps weights in the latest effort – Guns N’ Roses hit Welcome To The Jungle.
In their cover version of Led Zeppelin’s Black Dog, she dances around in a hooded leopardskin bodysuit. The couple married in 1986 but only moved in together a few years ago. Toyah said on
Loose Women in 2016: “The secret is – please don’t quote me – I hardly see him!
“We live in the same house now, but we used to have two separate houses. He still has his 200 yards away, but he doesn’t go there so much any more.
“However – this is the real secret – we have a snore room! After decades of sleepless nights, I said ‘please, please can we have somewhere for you to go when you sound like a foghorn!’”
I Want To Be Free singer Toyah has released more than 20 albums, written two books, appeared in over 40 stage plays and been in 10 feature films.
Robert formed King Crimson in the late 1960s. He also collaborated with artists including David Bowie, Blondie, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Daryl Hall, Midge Ure and David Sylvian.
