Let’s do this together

- Edited by SIOBHAN MCNALLY

I’ve been on snow watch for weeks so waking up to find Hell had finally frozen over and turned the local park into a magical Narnia snowscape is the single best thing to happen in a year.

I can’t tell you how much it cheered everyone up around where I live – it was like people had never seen snow before. We kept it all above board with socially-distanced snowball throwing and staying in our bubbles, but it was such a relief to have a few hours of fun.

In fact the steely determination shown by The Dark Lord and other local kids to go sledding in barely two inches of snow shows her generation are certainly not lacking in motivation.

Lacking in common sense, yes – she lost her earphones, another glove and managed to sled over her own hand at one point, but the sheer grit to scrape the most out of a bit of the white stuff was deeply impressive.

Even the pug Boris had a new spring in his step as he chased after children whizzing down the hill on their sleds and ran around weeing on their snowmen.

We even saw one big fat snowman who’s clearly been feeling the effects of the lockdown and put on a few pounds himself.

While waiting around at the top of the hill, I took a moment to shout over at some of the other mums who were also delighted to see their children laughing and shrieking. It almost hurt how much we’d all missed that sound.

We eventually had to go home as Jesse’s lips had gone blue and she had a soaking-wet bum, but those few precious hours has made it so much easier for both of us to face the next few weeks of lockdown.
