Cough up Stevie for Scott now

- BY SCOTT BURNS

RANGERS have signed

Scott Wright on a pre-contract but Aberdeen insist they will have to come up with “a good offer” if they want him now.

The league leaders confirmed yesterday they had agreed a deal for the attacking midfielder to move on freedom of contract in the summer.

Boss Steven Gerrard had stated he would like a deal to be done this month but Aberdeen are adamant if he leaves it will be on their terms.

The Dons hierarchy would prefer to keep Wright for the rest of the season.

Derek Mcinnes has already made it clear that he will continue to play Wright as long as he remains at Pittodrie. The player has also told Aberdeen he is happy to stay and see out his contract.

Mcinnes and Gerrard had discussed possible player swaps but the Dons board are not interested in any players going the other way.

Aberdeen are due to pay Rangers around £350,000 for Ross Mccrorie and that could be used as part of any possible deal.

But it would need to be an agreement that suits the Pittodrie club or Rangers will need to wait until the end of the season.

Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson said: “We look forward to Scott joining Rangers. He fits our football identity and our plan for the development of our squad.”

Gers have also handed right-back Nathan Patterson, 19, a new extension until summer 2024.

The Scotland Under-21 cap, who has provided cover for captain James Tavernier, has made four top-team appearances this season.
