I can see nephew Frank in Hoops hotseat

REDKNAPP ADMITS SACKED LAMPARD MAY RELISH CELTIC JOB

- BY KEITH JACKSON

HARRY REDKNAPP last night admitted his nephew Frank Lampard could be tempted into making a quickfire return to management if the Celtic job comes up for grabs.

Redknapp spoke shortly after the shock news of Lampard’s sacking from Chelsea following just 18 months in the hotseat at Stamford Bridge.

Bookies immediately installed the former England star as a front runner to take over from Neil Lennon.

It is a prospect which would see Lampard go toe-to-toe with old rival Steven Gerrard in a box office battle for supremacy at the top of Scotland’s Premiership.

And Redknapp believes that the 42-year-old (right with Gerrard) might find the lure of following Gerrard’s path north hard to turn down.

He said: “That’s certainly something that would interest any manager. It’s a great club to come and manage, that’s for sure.

“Neil Lennon is still there so I wouldn’t want to talk too much about someone else taking his job but obviously it would be interesting to see Frank in direct opposition to Steven Gerrard. I don’t know whether, if the Celtic job came up, it would be something that would interest Frank.

“Obviously Lennon is still in charge and I wouldn’t want to see him lose his job.

“Would Frank want to jump straight back in if it did become available? I wouldn’t know. But you could see the appeal.” Under pressure

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell had promised to conduct a review of Lennon’s position in January.

But the Northern Irishman remains in charge for tomorrow’s top flight visit from Hamilton despite falling 23 points behind Gerrard’s runaway leaders.

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has been installed as favourite to become the next Parkhead boss following his resignation from the Chinese Super League side Dalian Professional, with ex-bournemouth boss Eddie Howe also fancied.

But Lampard has now entered the betting as a 6-1 shot ahead of other potential candidates such as former Republic of Ireland No.2 Roy Keane and Lennon’s current right-hand man John Kennedy.
