THIS is the moment a woman spotted a “trapped ghost” outside a church.

Karen Furlong, 44, from New Ross in Co Wexford, said she caught the spooky snap by chance at St Mary’s Church in the town over the weekend.

She told the Daily Mirror: “I was sitting at home on Saturday night and I got up to go into the kitchen and noticed it was snowing.

“I ran out to the front and brought my phone with me because the church is just across the road from my house.

“They change the colour of a beautiful light on it.

“My son ran out behind me. So anyway, I took a few pictures, went in, sat down and posted a few on Twitter.

“And I was just sitting up in bed when I looked at it and I went, ‘Hang on a second’.

“I zoomed in and said, ‘Oh my God, I think that’s a ghost, a spirit’.”

Karen, who is “100% certain” it is a spirit or ghost, revealed there are some local theories as to who the mystery figure could be stemming from rumours of “dungeons” in the church itself. She continued: “I’m

a Shamanic Master. I practise holistic healings so I pick up on stuff most of the time but that night I didn’t. But something made me take a few pictures.

“I originally thought it was a monk but the more I look at it, I can see the despair in the figure’s face and I think it might be a woman.

“The church was built in 1210. We’ve always been told stories there’s dungeons over in that church, that there’s a tunnel that leads the whole way underneath the church and under the River Barrow.

“There’s stories of soldiers and little drummer boys.”

But Karen said that some mediums have weighed in with wilder theories – including that the spirit may be trapped in the wall.

She added: “Now another medium said it’s a woman as well but there’s a bishop with her but the bishop is not shown in the picture.

“And another woman said he or she, I think she said it was a she, can’t go further than the wall. She’s trapped there.”

The picture has been viewed tens of thousands of times on Twitter and featured on the front page of the New Ross Standard.
