Estranged hubby’s knife frenzy Then he dies in car smash

AN NHS worker was knifed to death by her estranged husband who then stabbed and killed her daughter.

Mum-of-four Emma Robertson Coupland, 39, was attacked in a hospital car park by her ex, Steven Robertson, 40.

Twenty minutes later, he attacked Emma’s daughter Nicole Anderson, 24, near the takeaway shop where she worked.

Shortly after, Robertson died at the wheel of a car when it ploughed into a tree in a suspected suicide.

Police say they are not looking for anybody else in connection with the deaths of the two women. Emma died in the car park of University Hospital Crosshouse, in Kilmarnock, Scotland, at around 7.45pm on Thursday.

Medics fought to save her at the scene as the East Ayrshire hospital was locked down and armed police rushed to the area.

Emma’s daughter Nicole was attacked in the town centre, two miles away. She was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries.

Robertson was killed in a car crash on the outskirts of the town at 8.30pm.

Detectives are investigating whether he deliberately drove off the road. A Police Scotland statement said: “Officers are not looking for anyone else as part of their investigation and there is no ongoing threat to the public.” Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain appealed for information and said: “Understandably, people will be shocked by what has happened. We are still in the process of establishing the full circumstances, however I would like to reassure people that there is no wider threat to the community.”

Floral tributes in memory of the women were left near the hospital.

One message tied to tulips said: “Thinking of our dear colleague and your precious daughter.”

Another said: “Nicole, RIP angel. Thoughts with all the family.” Nicole’s fiancee Vicky King wrote on Facebook: “So glad I have all these memories with you. You’ll never know how much you mean to me. I will love you till the end of time.

“I will miss that beautiful smile, that wee gorgeous person inside and out. You made me the happiest person on this planet daily.”

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said yesterday: “Dreadful news. My thoughts are with the bereaved.” A Number 10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister’s thoughts are with all those involved.”
