I NEVER EXPECTED MY HUMOUR TO TOK OVER

WHEN Sophie Grier joined Tiktok last year, never she never imagined her quirky car videos would see her watched by millions of people.

The 23-year-old found herself at a loose end when the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to her usual performing arts teaching and live performances as part of Abba tribute band The Bjorn Idenity.

Speaking to the Mirror, Sophie said the app has become a great creative outlet for her.

She added: “I just joined it during the summer last year and I wasn’t even really sure what it was.

“I just joined it as a bit of fun and started to enjoy making videos because I was in lockdown and bored.

“With performing being completely written off for the last year, Tiktok has become a bit of a creative outlet for me.

“It started off as a bit of a joke but it’s just sort of taken off, it’s been a bit mad.

“One video had 5.3million views. That’s the amount of people who would watch Britain’s Got Talent. It’s mad to think 5.3million people have watched me singing in my car, I can’t fathom it.”

The performing arts teacher from

Whitehead, Co Antrim, admitted she’s always had a talent for being creative with music.

Sophie said: “I wouldn’t have written songs before but I do have a brain that goes about 100mph so a song plays and instantly I’m thinking of ways I could rewrite it or that would make a good video.

“I’m so glad other people enjoy watching them too. I can’t teach or perform and then to have all these comments from people saying it brightens their day then that’s all I can really ask for. If I’ve made somebody smile that’s just amazing.”

Sophie’s followers have also mistaken her for another Irish singer – former X Factor star Janet Devlin. She said: “I was in London last year with a friend and we were and this girl came up to me and said, ‘Sorry I just have to ask are you that girl off X Factor?’ And me and my mate just looked at each other.

“People comment on my videos saying, ‘Are you @janetdevlin?’ so she’s getting tagged in the videos and now Janet actually follows me. She’s left me a few nice comments. I take it as a compliment to be compared to her.”
