HAMATIC FINISH

Accies grab deserved leveller with final kick to deny lethargic Light Blues

ANGRY Allan Mcgregor branded Rangers RUBBISH as Steven Gerrard singled out his keeper for saving his side from another shock defeat to basement side Hamilton.

And the Light Blues boss admitted his fringe men blew their big chance to impress him as he took his share of the blame after resting key men in Lanarkshire.

Gerrard singled out man of the match Mcgregor as the only one of the starting side who deserved pass marks, with Ryan Jack and Steven Davis coming off the bench to spark Gers into life.

Brian Easton’s own goal 10 minutes from the end looked to have got the sluggish Ibrox side out of jail before Ross Callachan’s goal with the last kick of the game earned Accies a deserved draw.

Mcgregor pulled no punches as he blasted: “Rubbish, for most of the game we were very poor. It’s the worst I’ve seen us.

“We didn’t look like we wanted to win the game. Hamilton were the better team all credit to them but it’s not good enough from us at all. A good bit of play for our goal but apart from that, not a lot you can take from it.”

Gerrard backed up his assessment of the sloppy performance while also analysing himself and his decision to rest some of his most influential men. Davis set up the goal for the runaway league leaders, who are still 21 points clear of Celtic despite the draw, with a brilliant pass and Jack and Kemar Roofe, whose two-match retrospective SFA ban will be appealed today, also came off the bench.

Bongani Zungu was handed his first league start since singing from Amiens and Cedric Itten only his third but neither did much to impress.

And Gerrard admitted: “It is difficult to find positives not just with Cedric or Zungu. They are the two people look to as they were brought into the side.

“Outside of the subs and Allan Mcgregor we need more. The only reason we took the lead was because

“I’ve got to look at myself too in terms of the decisions I’ve made. The team is my responsibility but looking back I left too much quality and personality on the bench.

“The team lacked that for large periods of the game. When we got Ryan Jack and Steven Davis onto the pitch with Roofe we looked a lot more dangerous.

“We looked more like a Rangers team but I need to take my share of blame. I cant play Davis every single game,

I can’t play Jack every single game.

“I have done that before and we have had injuries. You try and make the right changes at the right time but now looking back I have got them wrong so the buck stops with me.

“I am disappointed and frustrated at our performance. I’m frustrated at myself. When you take the lead but concede with the last kick of the game it’s quite natural to feel like that.

“But when the dust settles I’ll be quite relieved we’ve taken a point.”
