Brit mates’ super sub How to send your art

- BY SHAUNA CORR

TWO British pals have designed the incredible submersible for Richard’s journey to the depths of the ocean.

John Ramsay, 40, and Tom Blades, 37, who met in Elsham, Lincs, as teenagers but are now based in Devon, are world pioneers in the sub business. John said the idea was to make a craft which has “a legacy going on for years, completing science and exploring the ocean”.

“We had a two-year build programme to make this certified, full ocean depth diving twopassenger submersible. It had never been done before and there is a huge amount of British involvement in this project.”

RICHARD Garriott wants kids to draw what he might find at the bottom of the Mariana Trench – and he’ll take the best down with him. He said: “I really want to see what they are imagining.”

Heather Macrae, of co-organiser the Ideas Foundation, said youngsters should send Richard their questions too. Send entries and questions totalling no more than 1MB to venturetothedeep@gmail.com by 5pm on February 19 with your name, age, school and email – after getting your parent/carer’s permission. See Richard talk about his mission at the Sunspaceart Festival at 6pm on February 15 at youtube.com/c/astrotvearth.

A BELFAST store filled with curiosities has welcomed TV’S Salvage Hunters through their doors again in a rare second visit.

On The Square Emporium on Heron Road was first visited by Drew Pritchard five years ago in his search for local treasures.

The shop’s owners – husband and wife team Justin and Jill Lowry – said Drew made an exception when he returned as the seasoned antiques hunter rarely visits the same place twice.

Justin told the Mirror: “It has been five years since Drew Pritchard and his team came to Belfast in search of antiques and local treasures and his first stop is to one of his favourite stores.

“We had a lot of craic

on the day, filming had to stop a few times as the jokes and laughter got out of hand. But some serious dealing was done as well.” He added that Drew told him “On The Square has really gone for it” and that he was “blown away with the expansion since he was last over”. The New series of Salvage Hunters is available on Quest catch-up, SKY catch-up and SKYGO.
