THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Sky One, 9pm

- EITHNE FARRY

I have insecurities of course, but I don’t hang out with anyone who points them out to me. ADELE

Convinced that he can see a ginger cat, Johnny confides in Gary that he’s really struggling with his eyesight and feels like he’s cracking up. Gary says he should get some help. Then, later, he blasts Carla for blabbing after the prison doctor refers him to a psychiatrist.

Meanwhile, Ray has disguised himself as a workman and overhears Debbie discussing her plans with Miles. Furious, he confronts her in a rage. Elsewhere, Leanne has a calming moment of peace.

While Philippe pushes Matthew to reveal his blood rage to Diana (Teresa Palmer, left), she learns of the prophecy which predicted her arrival.

Libby Gallagher is the middle child in a fragile and fatherless family of five. Nearly 15, she is an unruly mix of worry, fury and teenage anxiety.

Then one warm evening on a long drive home, their mercurial mother is so irritated by the siblings’ squabbling that she pulls over to the side of the road and orders Libby’s sister Ellen, 12, out of the car. Then she drives away, leaving Ellen behind as darkness descends.

Though Ellen eventually makes it back home, the damage is done and the fallout from an attack by a “creepy man” who picked her up brings violence to their mountainside home, and unwanted responsibility to the Gallagher children.

This evocative coming-of-age story through Libby’s eyes captures a summer filled with danger and confusion as a family implodes. BY
