DERRY GAA are mourning the death of former player and manager Tom Scullion.

The Bellaghy Wolfe Tones man was a 12-time Derry senior Championship winner and also claimed Ulster senior Championship titles as a player and manager at county level.

Scullion, 81, won the Ulster SFC with the Oak Leafers in 1958 before guiding his county to provincial success in 1987 as they beat Derry 0-11 to 0-9 in the final in Clones.

He was part of the Bellaghy side who claimed the All-ireland club title in 1972 and was a member of the first Queen’s University team to win the Sigerson Cup in 1958.

“A legend of club and county and a former vice-chairman of Derry GAA, Tom Scullion was revered by all Derry Gaels. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom’s family and friends. Derry has lost a truly great man,” said a Derry statement.

NICK KYRGIOS raised doubts about playing at Wimbledon this summer after his show-stopping defeat by Dominic Thiem.

The Aussie whipped the home crowd into a frenzy in the last night before lockdown with some sensational tennis – and took the second set with an outrageous underarm serve winner. But world No.3 Thiem fought back to win 4-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4.

Kyrgios (above) has not played outside his homeland since last February and decided against travelling to the US and French Opens for health reasons. Wimbledon will be staged this year, probably with a limited crowd.

Asked whether he could return to Europe for the grasscourt season, the great entertainer of the sport said: “I’m not going to force myself around the world when I have to quarantine for a week and then play. I’m not too sure what lies head. I don’t particularly care, either. When I play, I’ll play. When I’m ready to play, I’ll play.”
